Carpool Chats with Deana Brown: 3 Tips for When Your Husband Wants a Divorce
Updated: Feb 7
Here are my top three tips when your husband tells you he wants a divorce:
1. Get a divorce notebook that can fit in your purse. Anytime you have any thoughts or questions write them down. When you meet with your attorney, all your thoughts and questions will be in one place. Don't email your attorney every time you think of something. You and your attorney will both become disorganized (and you will get charged every time you contact your attorney, so save yourself some money).
2. Get either an old-fashioned accordion file or a filing cabinet and collect every financial document you can get ahold of. This includes bank statements, credit card statements, tax returns, investment statements, retirement statements, etc. Remember to keep it organized.
3. Change your passwords for any account you have because you don't know what passwords your husband might have. If you want to be REALLY organized, you can create a brand-new email account to be used specifically for your divorce. Using a new email account for your divorce allows you to easily find emails between you and your attorney, CDFA, divorce coach, etc. without the clutter of other emails.
